Did you know:

  • The area of land that makes up Alaska was purchased from the Russian Empire in 1867 for 2 cents an acre.
  • Dutch settlers did buy the entire island of Manhattan from Indians for an estimated $24 in trade. Unfortunately the Indians did not realize that they actually owned the land, nor that they had sold it.
  • Even Donald Trump's companies have to file bankruptcy once in a while.
  • "Remember when the banks wouldn't lend us a dollar" said in laughter by Walt Disney to his brother Roy. They were discussing financial problems
    and mortgage payments that were due.
  • In 1803 you could have purchased: Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, parts of Minnesota that were south of the Mississippi River, most of North Dakota, nearly all of South Dakota, northeastern New Mexico, northern Texas, the portions of Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado east of the Continental Divide, and Louisiana on both sides of the Mississippi River, including the city of New Orleans (and a little bit of Canada), for an estimated 23 Million dollars. Known as The LOUISIANA PURCHASE.
  • In 1992 Wang Laboratories went bankrupt. Among it's liquidated assets were the famous 60 million dollar towers in Lowel MA. The towers went to foreclosure auction. Everyone assumed it would be an inside deal, that Wang himself or one of the Lienholders would buy the towers. A few local guys were able to buy the towers for $525,000. They sold a few short years later for over 100 Million.
